I’m setting up the app and was able to get it to work on my Mac, but on my phone I’m unable to complete the last step of the setup. I’m not getting any follow up message after clicking “Ask Obsidian to call back.”
Here is a screen recording of what I see.

Hi @Baker_Renneckar, welcome to the forum!
Are you 100% certain that Actions URI is both installed and activated on iOS? Sorry if that sounds like a weird question, but you wouldn’t believe how often I got this question and either Actions URI is not installed (because customers mistook the unrelated plugin Advanced URI for it), or not enabled – so this is what I start with nowadays.
Let me know. If it isn’t that, then we’ll figure it out together.
Yep, here is a screenshot of it installed
Cool, thanks. (The iCloud video wouldn’t download for me earlier, it just sat there showing the spinner and doing nothing. iCloud being iCloud, I guess.)
So, Obsidian is supposed to hand the incoming calls from AFO to Actions URI, but sometimes it doesn’t for no apparent reason. This can be a bit tricky to debug from afar, so I’m just going to list a couple of steps here. Please try them one at a time, after each step run the onboarding again.
- Use the app switcher to quit Obsidian, then restart it.
- Disable all plugins except Actions URI, restart Obsidian.
- If your vault is stored in iCloud, either move it out of iCloud – or set up a new, empty vault locally on your device, and try the onboarding with that one.
I hope I don’t sound too much like the proverbial IT guy archetype
Let me know how it goes!
The last one worked! I setup a new vault outside of iCloud.
I’m new to Obsidian, and at am paying for the native syncing, so would that mean I need to have the vault stored on my iPhone locally and again on my Mac locally, neither in an iCloud folder? Then just rely on the nativve syncing to keep them insync?
Glad you got it working! And that’s the problem, right there. In a nutshell, you have iCloud Drive and Obsidian Sync fighting over your vault, both try to sync which may cause data loss and endless sync loops.
Pick one or the other, but never both. Good thing you figured that out before you ran into serious data loss.
Have a great weekend!
