Before it gets deprecated I hope it works the same. I use the journal plugin for this and the periodic note action will open the nested daily note. The update open or get note tells me I don’t have daily notes feature is not active. Which is true but that’s for a reason.

It will, no worries.

I’ll need a bit more details, I’m afraid, to build a reproducible test case over here. (Please.) Which plugin exactly are you using to handle your daily/weekly/monthly/etc. note? Because AFO (and Actions URI) right now only support the official core Daily Note plugin and the community plugin Periodic Notes. If you use either one of those, the Open/Get actions should work the same as before, but if they don’t, then that’s a bug.
I confirm the problem reported by acting. I also use “Periodic Notes” as plugin to create nested daily notes like this 2024/09-September/2024-W39/2024-09-25. With the old actions plugin it works like a charm, with the new one I get an error that a file is missing when trying to append text. Just found the solution, the Actions URI to the newest version did the trick. Case solved
Thanks, @lastscoutboy, and welcome to the forum!
@acting, did updating Actions URI work for you as well?
I just ran into the same problem (Daily Notes feature not active). I’m using Periodic Notes, up to date as of this writing, with config:
- Format:
YYYY-MM-DD
- Template:
00 Meta/02 Templates/Daily Note Template.md
- Note Folder:
50 Resources/Daily Journal
Both Daily and Weekly notes are enabled. I also had a second Calendar Set with Daily Notes enabled in Periodic Notes. I disabled the Daily Notes in the non-default set, then deleted that set (obsolete for me; didn’t need it anymore). I let each of those changes sync to my phone (where I’m testing the Shortcut), and retried the Get Note shortcut for each separately, but I got the same error each time.
I’m using the soon-to-be legacy Periodic Notes action as a workaround for the time being.
@czottmann, thanks for your warm welcome to this forum.
Playing with my setup, I found an area where the new implementation behaves differently from the old one.
As written above I use “Periodic Notes” together with templates. In Action for Obsidian I created two shortcuts 1/ Create New Daily Note → works with new implementation and uses my defined template for daily notes and 2/ ToDo in Daily Note so that it creates the Daily Note, in case this was not present before → this does not work as expected and unlike the prior implementation it does not use the template for the daily note. Please fix this issue as otherwise this is the perfect solution for me. Great work, love it!
@jwhitley Welcome aboard, and thank you for the added details! I’ll look into that faulty Actions URI behavior tomorrow morning; unfortunately, there’re more pressing matter today.
@lastscoutboy Good catch, thanks!
Update: Started working on it.
@jwhitley I have a hard time reproducing that issue. I’ve used your config in Periodic Notes, created a new daily note, then ran the Get Note action – which worked w/o a hitch.
But you’ve mentioned syncing to iPhone… Is Periodic Notes actually enabled on your phone? (Please don’t be offended by the question – I’ve had customers being surprised to learn that Obsidian Sync doesn’t automatically enable sync’d plugins.)
The fix for this will be rolled out as part of Actions URI 1.6.5 later today.
I am using the plugin Journals. I imagine that’s part of the problem. I’m just using a workaround that gets the date from shortcuts and formats it correctly for the file path. It works.
Hi Carlo, thanks a lot for the fast fix. I confirm that it now works like a charm. You made me really happy Keep up the great work!
Ah, I see. Afraid that’s not supported. This might change in the future if enough people ask for it but for now… sorry.
Sorry to hijack, but I’m getting the same issue.
AFO v2024.2.2 (7383)
Actions URI v1.6.5
Obsidian v1.7.4 (167) (iOS)
Daily Notes disabled
Periodic Notes enabled, v1.0.0-beta.3
Both “get note” and “open note” fail when opening current daily note (which is enabled in Periodic Notes), “Daily Notes feature is not active”
I first tried a month or two ago, forgot about it, then tried again just now (it says I’m on day 0 of the trial: I plan on purchasing once I get this sorted!)
Welcome to the forum, @Sigafoos. It’s not a hijack if it mentions the same issue, basically.
Out of curiosity, how did you manage to install Periodic Notes v1.0.0-beta.3? The latest stable version (i.e., what Obsidian’s Community Plugins list shows) is 0.0.17. Could you please install that one, and let me know whether the issue still occurs? If it doesn’t, then that’d be a lead for me to follow.
Honestly, I don’t remember why I have that! Maybe it was to get Weekly Notes?
Honestly, I hadn’t realized how dev work had stalled on Periodic Notes. I only really use the daily notes so I may go back to the official plugin (I understand this does not help you, sorry…)
Heh, yes, try that. And then please let me know whether you still experience those issues with AFO!
