Hi!
I have a question about “the dance”. I remember reading at some point here that the dance is causes by how iOS functions.
A couple days ago I saw how a friend of mine used Drafts’ shortcut, which allowed him to append a text via a shortcut without opening the app.
Is it because it’s a native solution of Drafts app? Or how come there is no dance?
I can attach a video if needs be.
Cheers, ,
K
P.s. lmk if i should ask it in a separate thread, but I thought it’s not worth creating one
(I’ve moved the question into a separate topic because it’s a good question, unrelated to the original thread. Hope you don’t mind.)
Is it because it’s a native solution of Drafts app?
Yes, that’s correct. AFAIK, Drafts brings its own Shortcuts actions to the table, i.e. all the communication between the Drafts actions and Drafts itself are internal; whereas AFO and Obsidian have to communicate “across app borders”.
I should note that its also possible for two apps to communicate silently, without switching back and forth, but for that to work, each app have to agree that receiving messages from the other in the background is okay. Additionally, if the type of API they offer isn’t URL-based (as Obsidian’s is) then this might be different as well.
See those FAQ entries for more on the topic:
