I’m happy to announce the release of Actions for Obsidian 2025.1.0 for iOS & macOS. Get it on the App Store!

Important: Please update the companion plugin Actions URI in Obsidian before using AFO’s actions.

No Longer Broken

  • Get Active Note and Get Active File now return nothing instead of throwing an error if there is no active note or file, respectively, just like described in the docs. Thanks for the report, @edobld!

  • Straightened out some issues causing JSON-related errors when working with Get Dataview List LIST WITHOUT ID queries. Thanks to @Old_Cheesus for bringing it to my attention!

  • Check For Existence Of Note will no longer show an error notice in Obsidian if the note couldn’t be found, as should be. Thanks to Nataraj for the pointer!

  • Both Append Text To A Note and Prepend Text To A Note now correctly work with headlines at the end of a note which don’t have a trailing newline. (Actions URI issue.)

  • For some users, both Append Text To A Note and Prepend Text To A Note would create empty periodic notes when their “Create note if necessary” option was used. (Actions URI issue.)

  • Frontmatter containing a string with three or more hyphens in a row would break frontmatter parsing. This is now fixed. (Actions URI issue.)

  • When using Templater with periodic notes, the created notes would sometimes end up with Templater placeholders still unreplaced or content not applied. (Actions URI issue.)

iOS specific

  • Get Note Link won’t make its workflows hang anymore. Thanks for the report, James!

macOS specific

  • AFO now only shows up in the dock’s list of active apps when it was started by you. (Before, it would pop in and out when workflows were running.)

  • Fixes broken Workflow Library link in Docs tab.

Changes

  • The minimum iOS version is now 16.4 (before: 16.0).

  • On macOS, increased the size of the “What’s New” sheet.

Removals

  • Get Note used the “File Path” parameter as a fallback when the action was set to find the note by title, but the “Title” parameter was empty. In 2024.1, that behaviour was marked as deprecated. It has now been removed.

  • In release 2024.2, the Periodic Note features were merged into the standard note actions, and the standalone Periodic Note actions were marked as deprecated. This here release removes them entirely.

“The dance”, that back-and-forth between Obsidian and AFO, can’t be prevented – but it can be sped up quite a bit!. Shoutout to @calebhearth for the tip!
