What is going on here? This shortcut was working but now hangs in the AfO action. I can’t make sense of it. Shortcut is here it requires Data Jar and Logger for Shortcuts apps. Since you haven’t even seen this before, you will need an initialization helper from here

Good morning, this sounds like the companion plugin Actions URI is inactive. But apparently it isn’t, huh.

Logstravaganza output would help indeed! Please install, enable, restart Obsidian (or “Reload app without saving”) so that it hopefully picks up the Actions URI init phase. Run your workflow, and should you encounter a stalling, post the Logstravaganza note as a reply or send to me as a private note, and I’ll take a look!

Thanks. Nothing out of the ordinary, though. I see that Actions URI was initialized correctly (“Registered URI handlers”) but what I don’t see is an incoming AFO call. I’ll assume your vault name (“Creeds-PKM”) is correctly set in the workflow?

I stripped out the logging and setup the Obsidian Sandbox with the Actions URI and Logstravaganza plugins. Setup Daily Note and Templates core plugins and ran the shortcut against that. Same issue of the “runner quit unexpectedly.”

Hmm. “The runner quit unexpectedly” leads me to believe AFO has crashed, or there might be a zombie process hanging around. Usually, I see those errors when Shortcuts has gone awry (as opposed to Obsidian & its plugins).

Could you check macOS’ Activity Monitor, please?

I don’t see anything out of the ordinary. The full CPU or Memory activity lists are too long to post here and a .md or .txt seem to be disallowed files for the forum uploader. CPU and Memory activity seem perfectly normal.

Thanks for the heads-up, I’ve added the extensions to the whitelist!

So, to re-iterate, I think the hangs are definitely a Shortcuts/AFO issue. If you have the time, try a reboot and see whether it changes anything. Shortcuts sometimes does weird things without showing anything in the Activity Monitor (which is always fun).

Are you running Ventura or Sonoma?

UPDATE: Sorry, it’s been ~30°C over here all day and I have a hard time thinking straight. I just realized you’re saying the problem only occurs with one workflow but on both platforms. Apologies for being a bit dense. :grimacing: I’ll check your workflow in the morning.

It’s curious to me that it times out on iOS but the “runner quit unexpectedly” on Mac OS. Probably just differences in how the systems are woven together.

The Mac is on Ventura 13.5.2 (22G91)
I restarted the system and ran against the Obsidian Sandbox with no change in the result. I also restarted the iPhone and iPad and tried again. No change.

Good morning, I’ve found out why the runner error occurs in terms of input: Both your Vault and Log Heading are empty — I noticed some log messages were missing, and had to turn on the “Log Error If Message Empty” option in the Logger actions to get a confirmation.

(Disclaimer: I worked with the two Shortcuts you’ve provided.)

If I read the “Initialize Obsidian Environment” workflow right, you set the keys vaultKey and logKey in the ENV dict. But in the main workflow, you try to access vaultName and logHeading, and neither contains anything.

That said: the AFO action shouldn’t just explode, it should gracefully handle the input and show an error. I’ll get right to that.

@Creed BTW, I’ve changed the dictionary keys in my Data Jar to reflect your ENV dict, and to keep the workflow from drawing blanks, and then it worked fine. I’m not certain why the runner would crash.

Of course, the dict might contain invisibles that Logger may not show, like zero-length whitespace etc. — I guess you’ve tried setting dayLogMarker and vaultName explicitly to rule out “faulty” data in your ENV dict in Data Jar?

Yeah, I did discover that I had some naming issues. This resulted from a change in thinking not being followed all the way through. Thank you for looking this over and pointing out the issue. I feel a bit like a dolt.

Happens. One of the biggest boons (for me) in working with IDEs are all the different “What are you talking about” mechanisms checking my variable names and whatnot :joy:
